Speak Easy, Drink Easy

While I was in New York for the stationery show, one of my best friends, who lives in NYC took me to a most fabulous speak-easy.  It was so fabulous I don't even know if it has a name.  All I can say is you walk though a phone booth to get inside.  The interior was dark woods and brick walls - I loved it!  The bartenders (are they now called mixologists?) mixed really great concoctions in crystal mixing glasses.  I will definitely NEED some of these mixing glasses at my house!  It made the magical cocktails even better - I'm sure of it.

Market Madness

Sorry to leave you hanging with my Stationery Show teaser and then no follow-up to my trip.

New York was great and the National Stationery Show was a success.  I checked just about everything off my list of "wants/needs".  One of the challenges is that I had to purchase most of my Holiday/Christmas needs (which is obviously a challenge, because it was May).  So - here are a few of the items that I got that are NOT holiday.  Jonathan Adler has teamed up with Lifeguard Press to do a line of paper and party products.  I ordered these cocktail napkins, as I adore them and I thought they would be super fun for all sorts of summer events.

Again, Lifeguard Press has Lilly Pulitzer Designs.  This  fun chandelier invitation is one I believe could be used for an informal party or with the right font a more formal gathering.  I know that not everyone has the strong love for Lilly I do and this invitation doesn't scream Lilly.  It's also blue so obviously I love it!

These are some Lilly cocktail napkins I would love for summer cocktail fun...
I'll share more later.

Jack and Lulu in Elle Decor

When I first started as a sales person in a stationery store 7 years ago, one of the first lines that I took a liking to was Jack and Lulu.  I immediately bought some of their "cupcake" cards.  I was flipping through the new Elle Decor last night and saw that Jack and Lulu's boxed stationery was spotlighted.  So I thought I would add to their spotlight with some of their stationery from their custom album.  It is always fun and feels so current.  Enjoy!

To Market, To Market...

I leave Saturday to go to the National Stationery Show in New York.  It's easy to get excited about going, because you start getting announcements and invitations a few weeks before the show.  They are truly great "teasers".  The Allie Munroe announcement is made out of a plastic material. It's hard to tell in the scanned version - but it is a really unique look in person.

Smock sent a really pretty letterpress invitation.  I like the design, color palette and fonts.  The invitation also had a neat backing paper and it's all eco-friendly to boot! Hayden Avery does not currently carry Smock or Allie Munroe - but when I get great announcements like these, it certainly makes me want to stop by the booth to see the rest of their designs in person.

This was the outer envelope that the Smock announcement arrived in.  I adore that they had the address calligraphed!!!  It makes such a statement.  With so many letterpress companies these days you really have to do something unique to stand out.

Dauphine Press is not going to be at the Stationery Show.  However, they sent a very pretty very letterpressed spring time announcement with a "teaser" about new upcoming designs and colored invitation edgings.  We currently carry Dauphine Press - but it will be interesting to see what they have up their sleeves.

This is another letterpress vendor that we do not currently carry - but I think is a very pretty announcement.  The card stock is thick and porous so that design and text has a nice deep imprint.  They also have a good website that we at the store already viewed.

So many things to look forward to seeing...

Wedding Books in Southern Living

photo courtesy of Southern Living, May 2010

It is always nice to see vendors that we carry at Hayden Avery featured in magazines.  In this month's Southern Living, Jan Sevadjian, who is based in Dallas is featured.  Jan Sevadjian makes beautiful custom wedding books (as pictured above), guest books, frames and baby books.  Customers can select their fabrics, ribbons, monograms and thread colors, so each book is unique.  They typically take about 6 weeks to make, but are well worth the wait.

Mother's Day Cards

Don't forget your Mother's Day cards and/or gift.
Mother's Day is this coming Sunday, May 5th.

I love these two that we have in the store by You Send Me.
I need to mail mine by the middle of the week.
I always wonder if my mother-in-law knows that it is I who makes sure that she gets a Mother's Day Card?

The Paper Menu Wall Art

The Paper Menu is having a framed wall art sale - Buy 1, Get 1 Free.  These are great baby gifts, children's birthday gifts or even graduation gifts.  They are $35 each.

This is our display in the store (the top and bottom are Paper Menu and the center canvas is Fontaine Maury).  Obviously we have the hot pink and green - but there are many, many other color combinations, monogram options and even different art options.
